Davanti is committed to giving back to our community with a particular focus on creating opportunities for young New Zealanders.
In 2011 we engaged with a selection of secondary schools in South Auckland to understand how we could help students pursue the career opportunities available in Information Technology. We discovered that due to both a lack of understanding of IT and exposure to it, students rarely considered careers in the industry. It became evident that family and community carry a large influence on the students in the area so to fully effect change we would need to educate everyone.
The schools encouraged us to meet with Manukau Institute of Technology and from that introduction grew a great partnership. Together with MIT we designed a school holiday programme with year 11 students called the Business Careers Experience. We have just completed our third annual event with over 100 students now having had an invaluable exposure to the opportunities with Information Technology. Davanti’s team and MIT staff work closely to support the students through the programme. The students are taught interview skills and are then sent out in teams to interview people in industry to find out about their careers. On the final day they produce a presentation to share back with the group about what they learnt. From the event we produce a short video of the students and their experiences and they take this back to share with their schools and families.
