Salesforce Spring '19 Release

The start of February in New Zealand represents the last month of the summer season, with everybody enjoying the outdoors and sunshine. For Salesforce, February is another exciting month as it’s the start of their new season, the Spring ‘19 release – which will be arriving in production environments on the 8th / 9th February 2019. As always, the latest Salesforce release is jammed full of new enhancements that we think you should get to know. We’ll be providing a weekly blog to detail some of the key features of the Spring ’19 release. In this edition, we’ll look at the overall Salesforce features to receive enhancements.

Jump Right into Your Most Important List View with Pinned Lists  Remember the time where you need to select your go-to list view that you want to load as default list view?  Now you can. With pinned lists, all users can make any list their new default. To pin an unpinned list, click its pin icon. To pin a different list, select the list view and pin it instead. The default pinned list for all objects is Recently Viewed.

Print a Record Page 

Print key details and related lists from a record page in Lightning Experience, just as in Salesforce Classic. Specify record details visibility on the printable page and print the page from the browser. This feature is available for all users, for Account, Campaign, Case, Contact, Contract, Lead, Opportunity, Order, and custom objects. 

On a record home page, click Printable View. The printable view opens with the record details expanded or collapsed, based on visibility on the record home page. 

Increased Data Storage 
The calculation for data storage is changing. Salesforce is increasing the minimum storage from 1 GB to 10 GB.  

Update to Retention Limit for Field History Data 

Salesforce guarantees to retain your field history data for up to 18 months through your org, and up to 24 months via the API. As announced in Winter ’19, starting in Spring ’19, we begin the process of removing field history data older than 24 months. Because of the rolling nature of mass deletes, the data might still be available for some time after Spring ’19. 

Use Thanks Badges in Lightning Experience (Pilot) 

Sing your praises from the mountaintops, or at least from your Chatter feed. Thanks badges are now available in Lightning Experience. Let your co-workers know how much you value them with a suite of thanks badges from Salesforce. 

Chatter users can now give thanks from a user’s profile, a record, or a group in Lightning Experience. Giving thanks is as easy as it is in Salesforce Classic. Click the Thanks tab from a Chatter feed, and then enter the badge details. 

Keep More Related Records When Transferring Accounts in Lightning Experience 

Have more power when transferring owners of Accounts. The new owner can now choose what happens with related records such as open and closed Cases, open and closed Opportunities. Whether to keep the existing Account and related Opportunity teams or not. As well as the option to send a notification email. 

Remove an Account Team in Lightning Experience 

If Account Teams are not being used, the account owner now has the ability to remove the team in one click. This would have to be done individually before now.  

Opportunities: Remove a Team in Lightning Experience 

The opportunity owner now has the power to remove an opportunity team in one click if Opportunity teams are not being used. Previously, team members would have to be removed individually.  

Get Product Family Forecasts by Territory 

Sales teams can now forecast product family revenue by sales territory, demonstrating a clearer picture of their forecasts. Compare how the same product performs across different regions, bestsellers of each region and more. The ability to do this was only available for Opportunities before now. 

See Forecasts for More Time Periods 

Additional time periods have been added, it is now possible to view sales forecasts for up to 15 months, rather than 12. Custom fiscal periods have been added too. The quarterly forecasts limit however remains at 8. 

Log emails to People who aren’t Email Recipients from Outlook® 

Previously, it was only possible to log emails to a Contact, Lead or Person Account record with a matching email in either the to/cc fields. Now it is possible to search any person record and log it to that record. The email will be found in the records activity timeline.  

Use Salesforce Two-Factor Authentication with Microsoft® Outlook® 

The Microsoft integration has stepped up. If your Salesforce org uses two-factor authentication, the integration has the capability to add this extra layer of security too.  

In summary, one of the long-awaited features, default list view is being implemented in the newer release. Forecasting functionality continues to expanded for specific sales use cases. Adding and removing account team members becomes more streamlined and handy interface features enhance the user experience.
